About Us
Founded in 1899, the club and course enjoy a backdrop more reminiscent of the Swiss Alps than Central Scotland. Indeed, this was confirmed when, on 20th June 1879 while passing by train, Queen Victoria described Tillicoultry as “lying in a wooded green valley at the foot of the [Ochil] hills, reminding me of Italy and Switzerland”.
The course itself is visually stunning, with magnificent views, some taxing golf and a fiercely proud reputation as a friendly welcoming club and is a must for the keen amateur (and not so amateur) golfer.
The course is well maintained, thanks to our dedicated greenkeeping staff. Worthy of note are its 2 par 3 holes -neither of which are a pushover and the relatively short holes are a feature that present a challenge for all levels of golfer, accuracy being a key element when playing here, particularly for the low handicap golfer.
Our friendly clubhouse is a welcoming environment, providing refreshments etc at reasonable prices.

Club History (1899- )
Tillicoultry Golf Club was founded following a meeting on the evening of 21st March 1899. Having already found a site on the harviestoun estate, the course was prepared quickly and the opening day was on Saturday, 8th April.
After growing steadily in the early part of the 20th century, an opportunity to move to the current site ‘Ladywell’ was founded by a sub committee following the war. The new site was closer to the town and was considered a better site with less a less sloping layout. Peter Robertson, Scottish Professional Champion was hired to plan the layout of the new course, which was ready for the start of the 1922 season. The site was later completed with the building of the clubhouse in 1927.
The middle of the 20th century brought some key changes to the club. Sunday golf was permitted in 1949 and the addition of the now 7th & 8th hole were added in 1952 (although they were played in reverse order for the first 2 years). The current clubhouse site was opened in 1981 and the course and clubhouse have continued to be developed over the decades since.
The club has a fantastic history of producing many country champions, professional golfers and important figures in developing the games locally and further afield. The club continues a full fixture list, including key trophies from our history such as the Waddell Shield (first played in 1924), and the Jubilee trophy (first played in 1974).
